A Little About OVFA
Our Voices For Animals (OVFA), is an animal rights realism, education and awareness group. We are not your typical animal rights group! OVFA believes that reality and education are the keys to solving the worlds animal cruelty crisis. Unlike many other Groups, OVFA believes that every animal is important and we work to better the lives of every specie from house pets to the largest animals on earth and everything in between. No animal and no case of cruelty is left out here. We are a unique animal rights group with an open mind and we want to bring the animal rights world into this century with modernized tactics and campaigns that fit todays ever changing and ever growing abuses.
In our many years as animal rights advocates we have seen it all. From the truly touching, to the truly disturbing and unfortunately, the truly embarassing from our peers. As advocates for the rights of animals we are supposed be fighting for the good of them, but in this day and age, many groups are simply fighting for notarity and status and far to many activists and advocates are fighting for there own beliefs and overlooking the real needs of the animals and the consequences of their own actions. Many activists and advocates are not willing to listen to fact when it comes to such subjects as placing captive animals in the wild for example. But, we at OVFA, see the science, the behavioral needs, the population numbers, the land statistics, the consequences, and all possibilities both bad and good. In other words, we see the reality behind the decision. We must be selfless and put our emotions as the human animal aside in most decisions involving animals. There is no place in animal rights for selfishness. OVFA is the voice of animal rights realism!
OVFA was founded by Sabrina Hinkle on December 30 of 2008 after receiving an alert about the elephants at her local zoo being abused. Heartbroken and enraged she started a blog and titled it "Voice For Animals". She never thought that her blog would be so successful, but within only 6 months her supporters grew to over 10,000 and her advice was sought after from supporters around the world. The quick success lead to the re-naming of the blog to "Our Voices For Animals", believing that every supporter is a vital part of the group. Today, OVFA has numerous blogs and webpages with thousands of readers and we have become one of the quickest growing animal rights organizations with over 45,000 supporters in less then 2 years. From celebrities to other big name organizations our name is becoming very well known amongst activists and animal lovers.
Sabrina has been an animal rights activist for more than 17 years, a vegetarian for the same and a proud vegan for 6. She has 7 years experience in rescuing and domesticating feral and stray cats. She literally proves the experts wrong by turning feral adults into semi-wild lap cats. She has been a member of nearly every animal rights organization and has researched not only animal rights, but also the animals themselves. From learning the basics of Zoology to studying animal behavior, environmentalism and conservation Sabrina has dove head first into every area of animal life. She hopes to have her doctrate in the future and is currently forwarding her education so that she can live her dream of becoming an Ethologist studying big cat behavior in Africa. Sabrina is also a writer and is currently shopping a children's series about environmental and animal rights issues. She is also a freelance journalist informing others about some of the most controversial and sensitive topics in animal rights and environmentalism. A free thinker, Sabrina's opinions on animal rights has lead her into numerous battles and debates with other activist's that simply follow the herds. She believes that animal cruelty will not end until the world of animal rights has realized that fighting for the voiceless is not about self and what makes us feel better about the situation, but instead about the welfare of the animals no matter how many moral's are sacrificed in the process.
OVFA does not ask for donations. All we want from you is a sincere love for animals. If you want us to know who you are just sign our guestbook. However, several of our supporters have asked for merchandise so, we have started an OVFA store at http://www.zazzle.com/ovfaovfe. Every cent we recieve will go straight to fulfilling under funded shelter wish list's.
Below is the Official OVFA poem. We hope it touches your heart!
"Your Voices Have Come"
In their home they hear the whip of the blades. They run, trying hard to escape. But it’s no use the end has come They’re killed by a coward in the air with a gun.
Behind glass and bars his trunk swings, Not so long ago he was shackled by chains. He thought he had found a friend in the foes Now that friend makes him feel the bull hooks blows.
They have five fingers and toes just like we do And a brain that could think long before science ever knew. But the dumbest of all primates locked them in a cage Now they weep and ask why in experimental pain.
She lies beside the dumpster looking for a scrap But she wasn’t always hungry, she was once some ones cat. They threw her away thinking she’d survive on her own She’s still waiting for them by her long ago home.
They call it a farm but it’s more like hell Thousands of animals cramped in tiny cells. Electrocuted and tortured, their skin traded for cash Coats made of animals produced by human trash.
They’re thrown into rings and made to kill other dogs A breed now destroyed for man’s twisted wrongs. People say they’re bad but they’re forced to be that way They were taught to fight when they just wanted play.
They live in the ocean and them we can’t see So man rapes their home that was once pristine. Now polluted they struggle to survive And from the hooks of man this world must hide.
We hear the stories day after day And wish for our world to change. But we must fight to make it happen, And now the war has begun. Hold on sweet angels your voices have come.
